Norwegian black metal veterans Svartahrid have walked the path of pure Norwegian black metal for over 16 years now. And what a path it has been! Having released their first 2 albums on Austrian major label Napalm Records the band released their 3rd album “Sadness and wrath” (2007) under the banner of Soulseller records. With a top notch cooperation the 3 record-deal with Soulseller Records was renewed after the release of their 4th album “Malicious pride” with another 3 album deal. Now the time is right for the band to unleash the –until now- ultimate Svartahrid album, entitled “Ex inferi”. The band established a perfect match between their ice cold melodies, raw vocals and ultimate blast beats. This will be an absolute must-have album for ALL Norwegian black metal purists out there! Beware!

Hailing from Norway, Svartahrid was formed in 1994 by Istar and Forn. In 1996 two members were added: Bjoern on synth and Ilvastar on bass. In 1998 Svartahrid entered Akkerhaugen lydstudio to record a 2-track demo, consisting of the tracks “Forthcoming storm” and “Herskende i blod” (“Reign in blood”).
At the very same time Forn and Istar were also playing in another infamous band from Norway: Mactatus. This band was signed to Austrian-based Napalm Records which also offered Svartahrid a record deal. This lead to the recording of the debut album entitled “Forthcoming storm”. Shortly after the recording Bjoern left the band due to personal reasons. No replacement was recruited and Svartahrid took on as a trio.
In August 2000 Svartahrid recorded their second album called “As the sunrise flickers”. One year later Ilvastar left the band and was replaced by Frank Iberg.
The musical development, described as more “grim black metal” was not of the likes of Napalm Records, and the co-operation between Svartahrid and this label was ended.
In the years of 2002 and 2003 Svartahrid recorded their third album which was never picked up by any label. During 2005 Soulseller Records contacted the band and both parties agreed on a 3-record deal. This contract has been renewed and another 3 albums were added. The first album on Soulseller Records was entitled Sadness and wrath, released in 2007. A year later the 4th album malicious Pride was released and some selected live shows were done. Svartahrid was totally back in the world of black metal and a big following was the result. During 2009 the band started working on their 5th album, entitled Ex Inferi. They have taken the style Norwegian black metal to another level with this one. Svartahrid possess all the experience and craftsmanship to forge an absolute must-have album, being Ex Inferi, which will be out during May 2010.
