With their upcoming album "Volcano Shock", Zurich-based VORAX unleash eight tracks of no-compromise old school death metal, forged in the spirit of the genre’s origins. This is death metal the way it was meant to be: raw, aggressive and free of modern studio trickery.
From heaving, magma-thick mid‑tempo stompers to savage, riff-driven eruptions of violence, "Volcano Shock" hits like a tectonic shift. Crushing guitars, pounding drums, and ferocious vocals collide in a way that recalls the genre’s late-80s and early-90s golden era, while retaining a timeless sense of brutality and groove. No samples, no triggers, no quantizing — just human force captured on tape. VORAX take their dedication to authenticity to its extreme. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered largely analog, using self-restored studio equipment from the 1980s and 1990s, tracked and mastered on tape, and mixed through a vintage Studer console. Even the studio itself was built by the band. The result is a production that breathes, crushes, and roars with unmistakable old school character — a sound you don’t program, you capture.
True to its title, "Volcano Shock" is a thunderous journey into prehistoric worlds, dealing with natural cataclysms, dinosaur domination, and the raw laws of survival. The conceptual purity sets VORAX apart and reinforces the album’s untamed atmosphere.
The band unites members from the legendary Messiah, Omophagia, and Death Kommander, resulting in a lineup steeped in death metal history and experience. That pedigree is clearly audible throughout Volcano Shock, where seasoned musicianship meets wild, unfiltered aggression.
Entirely DIY from start to finish, VORAX prove that old school death metal is not nostalgia — it is a living, breathing force. ""Volcano Shock stands as a monolithic testament to how devastating the genre can sound when performed, recorded, and lived with absolute conviction.
"Volcano Shock" is essential listening for anyone who still believes death metal should be dangerous, physical, and timeless.
