Ask anyone who know their metal history: the At the Gates school of aggressive and melodic metal is a tricky one to master; wannabes and pretenders are sorted out quick and dirty. Feebly snapping at the heels of their betters never did anyone much good, but occasionally along comes a band like Arise, who manage to inject a new surge of blood into the old corpse and basically have the raw talent to arise (sic!) above the crowd, do their own thing against the odds. For proof of this statement, just give the third album “The Beautiful New World” a few spins, it rocks like hell unleashed! Arise cut their teeth covering their favourites such as Sepultura (hence the name), Pantera and Machine Head before moving into a more distinctly Scandinavian direction. A healthy dose of discordant staccato riffing remains to this day among the catchy melodies. The whole record packs a bite of a starving shark, hits like Mike Tyson on cheap trucker crank and… well, you get the idea already? It is killer stuff all right. The band made their first professional demo “Abducted Intelligence” at the Los Angered Recordings with Andy LaRocque, and if anything, they abducted the attention of Spinefarm Records with the final result. In May 2001 Arise recorded their first full-length album, aptly titled “The Godly Work of Art”, which saw daylight in November 2001. Another album called “Kings of the Cloud Generation” prepared the way for their latest and greatest strike, “The Beautiful New World”. Now gigs and international success beckon. Do your part and grab a copy of the new album, a finely created piece of modern metal art with a great packaging to boot. Tracklist: 1. How Long Can You Pretend? 2. A New World 3.
