(Matthias Mader) English version “Our goal is not to copy what has already been done by others but to sparkle the true 1980’s heavy metal spirit by creating our own musical signature sound.” This is what guitarist/lead vocalist Julian Izard says. And he must know. Metal is in his blood, so to say. His father, Didier Izard, played for French metal legend H-Bomb. Existance were formed in 2008 in a small town called Clermont, situated approximately 60 kilometres north of Paris. Although it’s not a big place by any stretch of the imagination, Clermont is home to quite a few local metal bands (such as Arès, Irminsul, Gencode, Orkaan and Dead N’ Crazy). However, Existance are by far the leaders of the pack. They recorded a demo CD in 2010, followed by their debut album for High Roller Records (containing eight bona fide heavy metal numbers). Band founder Julian Izard respects the heritage of his father's band but does not see too many similarities between H-Bomb and Existance: “Even though I’m proud to be the son of the singer of H-Bomb and even though it’s very pleasant for me to see how H-Bomb is still respected after all these years, I must stress that Existance is a band with its own identity.” France as a country has a very fine tradition of spectacular heavy metal bands such as Trust, Nightmare, Vulcain, Warning, H-Bomb, ADX or even Morsüre (to name just a few). They all had a very unique (French) sound. Existance's sound is steeped in 1980's heavy metal history but in contrast to their forefathers they sing in English. Julian Izard explains why: “As surprising as it may appear, I turned quite naturally to English, albeit French is my native language. By being the guitarist and singer of Existance simultaneously, I have a double mission, so I’ve chosen the language which appeared to me the most comfortable: English.” (Matthias Mader) Tracklist: 1.
